MOUNT CONERO

South from Ancona, Mount Conero is the only promontory on the Adriatic coast from Istria to Gargano.
The park and the mount itself, in the lower part, show a typical bush vegetation (brooms, laurels, junipers and arbutus, in Greek “Komaros” from which the name of Conero comes) and then pine-woods, holm-oaks and larches.

The Mount sinks into the Adriatic’s blue waters by its rocky slopes generating sharpened faraglioni (as “Due Sorelle” right in front of Sirolo), flattened rocks (as “Il Trave”, over than 1 Km. long into the foamy sea) or opening up to create bays and coves. One of the most picturesque bays is Portonovo with the dazzling church of Santa Maria, a real jewel of the Romanesque style.

Along with all of this, splendid secluded beaches, small historic spots, marvellous landscapes.
